Eileen Boris

Eileen Boris is Hull Professor and Chair of the Department of Feminist Studies at University of California, Santa Barbara. She is co-author, with Jennifer Klein, of Caring for America: Home Health Workers in the Shadow of the Welfare State.  With Klein, she submitted an amicus brief in support of the State of Illinois and the union respondents in Harris v. Quinn.

These women are personal assistants, undertaking the same job as those who labor in nursing homes and hospitals. But instead of working for a home care agency, they are employed by both their consumer (the elderly or disabled person for whom they care) and the State of Illinois, which established home care to meet the needs of such citizens.
