Senior Editor, digital

The American Prospect is looking for a razor-sharp editor with digital savvy and creative vision to lead our online content team into the future. A leader in progressive policy and political journalism for a quarter-century, the Prospect is working to dramatically expand our digital brand. That’s where the creativity comes in: We’re looking for someone who will wake up every day eager to find new ways to improve the quality of our content, reach new audiences, and increase reader engagement and shareability.

Working in our Washington, D.C., office, the features editor will assign and edit content to the highest standard (yes, we still believe in rigorous editing); supervise an associate editor and a large team of freelance and contract writers; recruit and cultivate new writers; run staff meetings; manage the pipeline of content; and work closely with our social media, tech and design team.

This is a perfect opportunity for an entrepreneurial, experienced editor with tons of fresh ideas for how to help the Prospect continue to evolve on the web. Plus, you get to work with one of the most collegial staffs you’ll ever find in journalism. To do this job well, the editor needs to be a voracious news consumer and with a keen interest in politics, policy debates, and the future of American progressivism.

Qualified applicants will possess:
