It’s always a good idea to take these kinds of reports with a grain of salt, but the Financial Timesclaim that Joe Lieberman is on McCain’s VP shortlist is too amusing to ignore (h/t Taegan). If McCain wants to compound his problems with the religious right, emphasize his incoherence on national security issues, and give liberal activist types yet more motivation to work like crazy for Obama, this is a brilliant way to go about it. I mean, you can’t argue with this logic:

“[McCain] loves Lieberman. And he is on the [short-]list because Lieberman has never embarrassed anyone, never misspoken. The first rule is, don’t take someone who costs you votes,” said one McCain adviser.

Certainly, I can’t think of a single misstatement on Joe Lieberman‘s part. Can you?
