TAKING POLICE. Fourteen Iraqi policemen are reported missing, and a statement on the Internet claims they were taken in retaliation for the alleged rape of 20-year-old Sabrine al-Janabi — the woman Maliki publicly declared was lying. The reported, however, that an Iraqi nurse who assisted the woman (speaking on the condition of anonymity) said that the woman showed signs of sexual assault. In case you don’t have access to this older article, the following paragraph relates the nurse’s account:

A nurse who said she treated the woman after the attack said that she saw signs of sexual and physical assault. The woman, according to the nurse, could identify one of her attackers because he was not wearing a mask, as were the others, and could identify a second attacker by a mark on his genitals.

The nurse would speak only on the condition of anonymity because she feared that Shiite militiamen would kill her for speaking out.

If these men were truly captured for retaliation, the retribution will be delved out to the police in general, not to the attackers specifically.
