The transition team announced this morning that Louis Caldera will be heading up the Office of Military Affairs in the White House. A former secretary of the army during the Clinton administration, Caldera is a West Point graduate who is currently a law professor at the University of New Mexico. Though reports indicate that there are no signs yet of any fractures between the future Obama administration and the military, fear of such a rupture, real or imagined, should be assuaged by Caldera’s appointment. The office is not a hugely influential but I think the symbolism is what counts here. Bio from the transition team after the jump.
