Kevin Drum points to a Pakistani newspaper that uses Google Earth to definitively prove that drone attacks on militants are being launched from inside Pakistan, as Diane Feinstein claimed to some uproar last week before backtracking. Pakistan previously denied the U.S. was using bases within Pakistan to target Taliban militants because the arrangement is politically problematic for Asif Ali Zardari, the current president of Pakistan. Publicly, Pakistan opposes the attacks. The recent deal with militants in the Swat region is indicative of how much trouble Zardari’s government is in, and this revelation is likely to damage his credibility among Pakistanis further.
Hopefully, Google will never become self-aware, because the human race wouldn’t stand a chance.
