The End Is Near: Meteorite Hits Siberia
In a frightening precursor to the historic near-earth fly-by of asteroid 2012 DA14 this afternoon, it seems a piece of meteor has struck land in the Russian Urals. About 1000 were injured, buildings were heavily damaged, and authorities are still investigating. In 1908 a meteor landed in Siberia and leveled 825 square miles of forest.
