In what seemed to be a GOP-led rush to capitalize on the NPR-James O'Keefe fiasco, today the House voted to block federal funds from going to National Public Radio. Sponsored by Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-CO), the measure passed the House in a 228-195 vote which fell fairly clearly in a partisan fashion -- all Democrats present voted against the proposal, and all but seven Republicans voted for it.
However, the Sunlight Foundation points out that the rush to vote on defunding NPR appears to have violated House Speaker John Boehner's (R-OH) pledge to guarantee that all members of the House would have 72 hours before voting on a bill as a safeguard against members voting blindly on a bill before them.
And when Anthony Weiner (D-NY) brought that to the attention of presiding Congressman Ted Poe (R-TX), the inquiry from Weiner was dismissed by the clearly agitated Poe as "hypothetical."
