CARBON NEUTRAL CAMPAIGNING. This is sort of cool; I just got a press release from the John Edwards campaign declaring that they were going to make their campaign carbon neutral through conservation and purchasing carbon offsets. I’d expect to see the other campaigns follow suit, too. Currently, it’s understood that all merchandise from a Democratic campaign must be union made, I wonder if it’ll now become the norm that all campaigns must be carbon neutral. Additionally, I was impressed to see the Edwards’ folks credit Vilsack with having been the first to promise a carbon-neutral campaign. You rarely see such credit-sharing in presidential politics, though I guess when the originator could endorse and aid you in Iowa, it becomes a bit more attractive. For those interested, I’ve pasted the press release after the jump.
