Jamil Smith reminds us that, for all the controversy about Common visiting the White House, NWA’s Eazy E was once invited to attend a luncheon with George H.W. Bush. NWA of course, was about as anti-police as rapping gets–their song “Fuck Tha PoliceThis incidentally, lead to an awesome reimagining of the incident by The Game in the song Dreams where he raps “The Dream of Huey Newton/that’s what I’m livin’ through/The Dream of Eric Wright, that’s what I’m givin’ you/ Who walk through the Whitehouse without a business suit/Compton had jheri curl drippin’ on Ronald Reagan‘s shoes.”

The only explanation I can give for why The Game thought Eazy met Reagan instead of Bush is that most black people really, really don’t like Reagan, who achieved a level of iconic villainy that his successor never did, and so Eazy letting his jheri curl drip on Reagan’s shoes would have been much more satisfying.
