In a resounding repudiation of Donald Trump, voters from coast to coast went for Democrats and Democratic causes in large numbers on Tuesday, with historic wins in New Jersey, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Georgia, and the culmination of a massive upset in New York City. Key themes emerged: the return of Latino voters and young people to the Democratic Party, the desire to counter Trump’s actions, and the signature campaign issue of affordability, particularly as manifested in dealing with soaring electricity bills.

This week on our live show, executive editor David Dayen talks to editor at large Harold Meyerson to go over the election results. They cover the gubernatorial races, Zohran Mamdani’s scintillating mayoral win, and how Gavin Newsom’s leadership on Prop 50 has brought other Democrats into the fight over Trump’s attempts at election-rigging. What comes next is governing, and Democrats have found their way to a few possibilities there. David and Harold also deliver some political obituaries for Andrew Cuomo (whose career is over), Nancy Pelosi (who announced plans to retire from Congress next year), and Dick Cheney (whose obituary is literal and whose legacy is monstrous).

As we cover the regime in Washington and its impact on your life, we’ll be livestreaming every Friday at 12:30 p.m. ET to give you the information you need to understand the week in news. Join us by subscribing to our YouTube channel today!
