Democrats are pumped up about this AP story on public opinion about the Affordable Care Act :
But when asked if they would be more likely to vote for a congressional candidate willing to give the law a chance to work and make changes as needed, or one who would repeal it entirely and start over, respondents picked the one who would give it a chance by 55-42.Political independents favored giving the law a chance 57-40 in the poll, taken in early May.While many people are still skeptical of the law, most also favor keeping it in place and gradually improving it, which reflects the fact that many people who "opposed" the bill before its passage were concerned that it did not go far enough rather than being concerned that it was a case of overreach. It also reflects the American disposition toward embracing social safety net legislation after it is passed. While by no means a settled issue, it doesn't look like health-care reform is the political disaster Republicans promised their Democratic colleagues it would be -- which shouldn't surprise anyone.
