Jeffrey Goldberg wasn't trying hard enough. Despite stuffing Hezbollah flags into his carry-ons and waving fake boarding passes under the noses of security employees, Goldberg was unable to get TSA sufficiently riled up.
His efforts were wasted. Looks like all you have to do is affix the sticker of your favorite Florida folk-punk band to your fixed-gear bicycle -- and boom. Not only will you get vigorously interrogated, you'll also land yourself a spot on CNN's front page:
A pilot alerted airport police when he saw a bike with a sticker that read "this bike is a pipe bomb" parked near the passenger ramps of Terminal C at Memphis International Airport, according to the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority.
"Terminal C ticketing and baggage claim at the airport were cleared out," said airport spokesman John Greaud. "A K-9 unit responded and found no explosive materials at the scene."
I can't decide which actor is more clueless in this scenario. On the one hand, you would think that anyone not eager to get their bike destroyed by a bomb squad would realize that most people don't get the joke. But really, would an actual terrorist make TSA's job so easy? I'm going to venture out on a limb here and say no.
