If you're going in for a cardiac bypass anytime soon, make sure to check out your hospital's rankings for the procedure. Turns out that the best hospitals are only about half as likely to kill you as the worst. Despite evidence that the rankings save lives, though, a new Health Affairs study found that nobody uses them. The information is out there, but the comparison shopping conservatives are so enamored of simply isn't happening. Now, if folks aren't going to do their their due diligence for open heart operations, why exactly do we think that they're going to start doing it while they're writhing in pain from a shattered leg?
