Tom Edsall's latest column is sort of weird. He called a bunch of Republican strategists to ask if there was talk about pulling Sarah Palin from the ticket. They all said no. But instead of just reporting that, Edsall calls it a code of "Omerta" and suggests that they're all lying, but in unison. But I believe them! There's no way the McCain campaign could survive replacing their vice presidential pick. This is John McCain's first presidential-level executive decision ever. The Christian Right loves her. McCain has defended her. To declare it a failure would be tantamount to ending his campaign. It would be proof of his bad judgment and enrage his base. He'd lose by 12 points. I'm sure those strategists are talking damage control, and trying to figure out an appropriate target for backlash, but they really can't let Palin fade from the ticket, and they know it.
