Dick Holbrooke takes a lot of fire among liberals, but he does command respect in many quarters: Read Steve Clemons on why Holbrooke is indispensable. My only comment would be that even if you did want there to be a ruthless, determined fixer who the Obama campaign could pull out in times of need or crisis, that doesn't mean you'd want the guy with that skill set running the State Department, or even anything else. Holbrooke should not be the face of a liberal foreign policy, but that doesn't mean he can't occasionally serve as its fist.
