Last night I watched an episode of "Boston Legal" for the first time, and was surprised to see a plot line in which Candice Bergen's character, a tough, middle-aged lawyer, sues her 22-year old nephew, Mitchie. A delegate to the Democratic convention, Mitchie plans to support Barack Obama instead of Hillary Clinton, even though Clinton has won his Congressional district and the state of Massachusetts. Mitchie is an utter caricature of a crazed, drooling Obama boy, while Bergen's character is depicted as a savior to all woman-kind -- and democracy! -- for attempting to force the DNC to hold pledged delegates accountable to their constituents.
In Massachusetts, that would help Clinton, but it is she, not Obama, who has signaled willingness to campaign for the votes of pledged delegates nationwide, regardless of their commitments. So the episode's larger point is actually one more typical for an Obama supporter to make. Indeed, a quick search of OpenSecrets for David E. Kelley, the show's creator, shows that he has donated $2,300 to the Obama campaign. Case closed.
