Fred Thompson has decided that what his campaign needs is Dick Cheney's daughter Liz and brown-people-hating former Sen. George Allen running the show.
I still haven't figured out whether this will hurt him or help him, but for some reason I'm inclined to go with the latter. Liz Cheney has name recognition, family ties, and at least a little cred in some circles for working on Middle East issues in the State Department. And despite losing in Virginia last year, Allen is popular with the base that Thompson wants to attract, and as the Caucus notes, the whole "macaca" incident and his loss to Webb "did not change the impression of Allen at all” among that base. And I'm entirely creeped out by that.
Update: The original post contained a mix-up about the Cheney daughters. The post has been corrected.
