While Blanche Lincoln's narrow win in Arkansas, delaying her retirement by five months, is grabbing the headlines, lots of interesting things happened yesterday. As a follow-up to yesterday's column on California's absurd initiative process, here's a rundown on what happened in the Golden State (full results are here).
First, California voters gave us hope by rejecting Prop. 16, an initiative that would have made it all but impossible for municipalities to create their own electric utilities. PG&E, the state's largest private utility, poured $46 million into the campaign to eliminate any competition to them but lost in the end, in large part due to near universal condemnation in the media. Yay, democracy!
