I'm not sure exactly what to say about Erick Erickson's epiphany here, but if this is the sort of insight conservative blog readers are receiving, it's genuinely scary stuff:
I think it is worth repeating that the left does not want to surrender to the enemy so much as they do not want our soldiers emboldened by victory. Victory by American troops is anathema to the left. One might imagine it an impressive enough attack to say the left doesn't simply want to leave Iraq and end our involvement in a sectarian civil war, but "surrender to the enemy." (An interested observer might ask, which enemy? And to whom would we even offer our surrender? The Sunnis? The hollowed out shell of al Qaeda in Mesopotamia? The Shiites? If so, which Shiites? etc.) But Erickson, to his credit, goes much further. The left, he asserts, doesn't merely seek to bring about a world in which they get gay married within a Global Caliphate, but are actually animated by a deep and abiding desire to keep our troops from being happy.Sigh. I don't really think we, as a country, are still living in Nixonland, but there's no doubt that some of us have dual citizenship.
