Rachel Slajda highlights the latest from the fight over a proposed Islamic community center in Murfreesboro. This is what the lawyer for the plaintiffs who are trying to block the project by arguing that Islam isn't a religion, Joe Brandon Jr., had to say:
Brandon argued that the Islamic Center is not entitled to religious land use rights because these are the same people who flew jets into the World Trade Center on 9/11.
That really is the Islamophobic argument in a nutshell. Muslims are collectively responsible for terrorism, therefore they don't have any rights. It has no basis in the Constitution, and it doesn't address one way or another the question of whether Islam is a religion, which it clearly is. If this whole lawyer thing doesn't work out, though, maybe he can get a show on FOX News.
