Got to give HBO props for this one: The signaling on John From Cincinnati was genius. The show looked so weird, and the post-Sopranos-finale time slot is so obviously huge, that you had to assume HBO had enormous faith in this show's appeal. Thus, a lot of folks who were uninterested in the premise tuned in to see what the executives were so confident in. And damned if I could figure it out. It looks, feels, and smells like an HBO drama, but is it really a good sign if I hate all the characters from the beginning? So I switched over to Heat, which is a damn good movie. Meanwhile, Big Love returns tonight, which is very exciting, even though it's in an inconvenient Monday time slot.
