- It's unsurprising that Americans are becoming increasingly more isolationist in their views, given that they're now starting to see the cost of our imperial ways. And of course, this would have happened sooner, if there was any call for shared sacrifice.
- Atrios is of course right that unemployment affects the deficit insofar as there is less revenue when over 10 percent of the country is out of work, but I'm not holding my breath that this will become a widely embraced talking point. Even this very good New York Times editorial encouraging the administration get bolder with job creation fails to note that the deficit everyone whines about could be put on a sustainable path once employment goes up.
- I guess there's still more to say about "climategate." Point A: it is not "shattering the global warming consensus." - Remainders: What happened to that other war in the Middle East?; thank God we live in a country where one has the freedom to purchase assault rifles without proof of ID; the pharmaceutical industry is something every American should be proud of; I'm very sympathetic to the idea that one often needs to work in the system in order to change it; frankly, the Senate would probably perform better as an institution if there was less collegiality; and Senate Republicans blame Al Franken for their vote against rape victims.
