- There's very little news in the presidential race today because the candidates (all senators!) are attending the hearings with General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker. However, there are a few things left to say. First off, the Penn story continues to reverberate and Clinton's critics are calling for his complete ouster from the campaign as it becomes clear that he will continue to be a major influence on the campaign.
- Bill Clinton too may have been associated with the Colombia trade deal.
- McCain's biographical tour seems to have increased his media coverage, but he still isn't close to Clinton or Obama.
- Obama suggests he'll look to balance the gaps in his own knowledge when looking for a running mate but says that he's confident in his knowledge of foreign policy.
- Clinton's new co-chief-strategist Geoff Garin says that he doesn't "want there to be a thermonuclear climax" to the primary. There's definately been a change of tone in the Clinton campaign that can be directly tied to Penn's departure, and I second Mark Schmitt in thinking it's good both for her and the Democratic party.
- Democrats have a good shot at picking up the majority of military vote.
- Holly Yeager looks at today's hearings as an audition for potential VP picks of both parties.
