…please?
In the spirit of the holidays, TAP is trying to raise funds to keep our magazine and, more importantly, our Web site and blogs, moving forward in the new year. And your donations are tax deductible, so this is your opportunity to give yourself a middle-class (or, really, any class) tax break before the new administration gets around to it.
You should give, of course, because you enjoy our content and would like more of it. But if you care about liberal journalism in general, you should give because of the Prospect's writing fellows program, which is one of very few opportunities for young journalists to spend a year or two actually reporting and writing, as opposed to fact-checking and doing grunt work, while learning from smart colleagues.
Having young turks like Adam and me debating in the office -- and on the blog -- every day helps keep the magazine vibrant and interesting. But even if you don't like us specifically -- we don't take it personally -- consider the other people who got their start as writing fellows: Josh Marshall. Matt Yglesias. Ezra Klein. Jedediah Purdy. Nick Confessore. Mark Greif. If you like their work, and think the media needs more like it, donate to the Prospect and keep the program alive.
I consider myself very lucky to have the opportunity wake up every morning and write about the fascinating political moment we're living through. (There was also a period between August and November 4 when I considered myself lucky to wake up sane, but that's a different story). We're going to keep doing the best we can to scrutinize the policy debates and political shenanigans of the new Administration with a critical eye. But we need your help to do it, which means donating today. After all, it's not like we're going to get a bailout.
