Truly shameful: This afternoon, Gov. Jan Brewer of Arizona signed into law a hopelessly draconian anti-immigrant measure that essentially makes it a crime to be an undocumented citizen. The law will require police officers to inquire about a person's immigration status if they form "reasonable suspicion" that the person is in the country illegally.
What qualifies as "reasonable suspicion" is unclear. The law's opponents have expressed concerns that the measure could lead to racial profiling, and Barack Obama has been highly critical of the bill.
