This past weekend, the Obama administration pressured the Senate to confirm Erroll Southers, police chief for homeland security and intelligence at LAX, as the new head of the Transportation Security Administration. Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) placed a hold on Southers' nomination in November of last year, citing concerns that Southers will prioritize employee unionization efforts over airline safety concerns.
