There's currently heated buzz around Alaska governor Sarah Palin. She's young, popular, pro-life, and female. It would be a smart pick. It would introduce some chaos into the race, in much the way that a Lieberman pick would. And because she's so young, she wouldn't be expected to compete with Biden in the vice-presidential debate. She'd be expected to add a shot of youth and, through her gender, progressiveness, to the ticket. But ABC News reports that she's sitting at home in Alaska, not readying herself for an appearance in Dayton, Ohio. So who knows. Update: Anthony makes a good point in comments, saying that Palin's "selection could be used to attack McCain for being disingenuous when he says Obama lacks the experience to be commander-in-chief." It would be a bit hard to center the campaign on experience when you're a 71-year-old man putting an Alaska governor with two years in office a heartbeat away from the presidency. In any case, today is a travel day for me, so if McCain nastily decides to announce while I'm on a plane, consider this a McCain VP open thread.
