As a follow-up to my Tapped post on "The Turtledove Style in American Politics," what's the best alternative historical political fiction out there? There's plenty to do with the Civil War and World War II, of course, but is there much of a less combat-focused bent? Has anyone tried to imagine a world in which Kennedy doesn't die, and Goldwater pushes forward, and the Civil Rights Act doesn't happen, and the riots grow stronger, and so forth?
