If the latest fundraising e-mail from the NRCC is indicative of what's going on in that building, they're in some real trouble:
The price of gas continues to climb each day. Folks like you in towns across America have experienced increases of as much as 11% in the last month alone. This comes after we were promised by Nancy Pelosi two years ago that the Democrats had a "common sense" plan to bring down the gas prices. It's been two years since the Democrats took control of Congress, and they've ignored practical solutions to reduce energy costs and reduce America's dependence on foreign oil. Republicans are proposing 21st century solutions to our energy crisis but we need your help. We invite you to sign this petition and tell Congress just how much this energy crisis has hurt your wallet. No one can deny the increased strain put on the American middle class families.Yeah, because Republicans have been huge supporters of "21st century solutions to our energy crisis." This is rather what I was talking about the other day: The set of issues currently worrying the electorate are not issues Republicans sound credible addressing. It's not that they're not trying. They sent out an e-mail on oil prices! But this is the party that can't quite decide on whether it believes in global warming. It's the party that ran a ticket composed of not one, but two, oil men. It's the party of James Inhofe. Republican e-mails fretting over oil prices and renewable energy are like Philip Morris commercials telling everyone to stop smoking. They're interesting curiosities, but no one takes them seriously.
