I think we tend to take Public Radio for granted a lot of the time and it doesn't get the love it deserves on the internet in part because it's primarily an audio experience. Two things I heard this weekend reminded me of this and I thought I'd pass them along. Peter Sagal had a hilarious and brilliant rant (listen to it for the full effect) about the movie version of Horton Hears a Who which features a subplot about the mayor of Whoville's difficult relationship with his son. Out of the mayor's 97 childern, 96 of whom are girls, guess who saves the day? Yeah, it's the son. Sagal's piece is more than just a rant, it's an indictment of the whole way the film industry thinks about women.
Meanwhile, This American Life did a whole show last week about the Bush administration's theory of the Unitary Executive that manages to explain the both the absurdity of it and the human cost fantastically well while also shedding light on some lesser-known examples. Bloggers tend to complain more than we praise, I know I do, and I think we should try to change that. So way to go Public Radio. Keep on keepin' on.
