Read Dana on what a public voucher school program would look like, and how they could help staunch much of the urban flight that currently bedevils big cities. And by the way, if it wasn't clear in yesterday's post, I fully support charter schools, and programs like the one Dana proposes (hence my mention of integrating districts). I think vouchers are very dangerous to our educational system, but even so, if there was evidence that they massively improved the outcomes of students, I'd be open to their implementation. But that evidence simply isn't in existence, and the large-scale voucher programs we've attempted have returned largely disappointing results.
