For all the talk of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and Barnie Frank, one of the few folks who really had power over all aspects of the economic crisis -- from regulating subprime mortgages to influencing the treatment of derivatives -- was Alan Greesnpan, and he's managed to escape with his reputation pretty much unscathed, in part because it's not really in anyone's political interests to launch attacks on him. But taking a critical look at his record is actually helpful in understanding how we got to this place, so kudos to The New York Times for giving it a shot.
