The niceties from Tuesday's debate seem long behind us, as tempers flair in Nevada again. UNITE HERE is running a radio spot in Spanish that says that Hillary Clinton doesn't respect their right to vote, and urges voters to caucus for Obama this weekend. "He respects our votes. He respects our community," says the ad. The Clinton camp is calling on Obama to condemn the ads, to which they've responded, "No way," CBS reports. And now Edwards is piling on, issuing a statement last night condemning the ads:
Just three weeks ago Senator Obama was calling on me and Senator Clinton to demand that outside groups not run ads on our behalf. These new ads look like the same old nasty divisive politics that both Senators Obama and Clinton denounced just two days ago. It is extremely important for us to quit focusing on fights between politicians and instead focus on what we need to do for working people, for the Latino community in Nevada and across the country.
There's some truth to the premise that since Obama lambasted ads from unions in Iowa, it's a bit hypocritical to embrace them when they're in his favor. But there's much more truth to the Nevada ad's claim. The Clinton camp did try to make it harder for union workers on the strip to vote there, and should be criticized for it. The last few days have pretty clearly illustrated the fact that "Hillary Clinton no respeta nuestra gente," unless of course nuestra vote is in her column.
