I'm not sure how I missed this, but last season, Futurama did an amazing send-up of same-sex marriage opponents, from Fox News to the National Organization for Marriage. An attempt to legalize "robosexual marriage" between robots and humans through ballot "proposition ∞" leads to opposition from religious conservatives:
A Republican political activist in Maryland, while arguing against marriage-equality legislation, warned that equality would lead to "one day when artificial intelligence is that advanced, we will be considering whether or not people can marry their androids." Alan Boyle called it "a case of life imitating 'Futurama,'" but it's more of a case of life imitates Futurama imitating life.
Maryland's marriage-equality bill has passed the state Senate, but it's running into some turbulence in the House of Delegates.
