It occurs to me, in context of the last few posts, that our willingness to pay higher prices to the pharmaceutical industry in order to subsidize the low prices of Western Europe, Canada, and Japan, should probably count as a massive foreign aid expenditure. Indeed, if tallied up, it's likely our largest. Now, why we're spending all this money to ensure citizens of rich, developed nations have access to dirt cheap pharmaceuticals isn't entirely clear, but we should demand karma points for it anyway.
