Commenting on a poll showing that an enforcement-first, minuteman style party would exercise some political clout, Mickey Kaus writes:
Still, it raises suspicions about the hothouse, semi-confected Beltway CW that a tough, non-"comprehensive," enforcement-first approach is a political loser in the short term, no?
Um, the CW is that "enforcement-first" is a short-term political winner, but long-term suicide. You get angry white males in 2006 but sacrifice the Hispanic bloc far into the future. I don't know who Kaus is talking to that's telling him the reverse... [The voices in his head. Isn't it obvious? -- Ed.]
