You've really not lived till you've seen about 100 members of press shut out of a political speech. The shock, the sense of betrayal, the certainty that the campaign can't possibly be doing this -- it's fairly funny. Of those who got in, though, it was striking, too, that a number brought small children to the event. I've never seen that before, and it suggested that some in the media, at least, thought they were witnessing history. Sadly, though, I was one of those press types who, arriving two hours before the event, still didn't get in before they filled to capacity. A friend inside, however, assures me that Obama came down from the ceiling on a zip cord, and it was awesome. Hopefully, they caught that on YouTube. Now I'm on the Hill for the Democrats' pre-SOTU festivities, listening to Steny Hoyer talk up balanced budgets. Pretty sweet...
