In addition to DC's abundance of burger joints and dearth of good Vietnamese spots, there are lots of reasons not to be excited that Top Chef contestant Spike -- who cooks Vietnamese food now -- is opening a burger joint in DC. One reason is that Spike appears to be a huge asshole, and DC doesn't need more huge assholes. The second reason is that he doesn't appear to be a very good cook. He's in the bottom three almost every week, and though he hasn't yet done poorly enough to get kicked off, his reputation is certainly being trashed because he keeps surviving only to get yelled at by the judges the next week. One might wonder why he's moving from New York to DC to open his restaurant, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's worried that his reputation in New York, where foodie types pay close attention to these things, is sort of trashed. DC is less exacting, and so his Top Chef-based notoriety may be a boon, even if it's for continually screwing up the challenges and acting like a jerk.
