The new DC Crime Map feature, while rather nifty, is a little bit odd. It allows you to enter your home address (or any address) and see a map of all the recent crimes in the surrounding area. As I said, nifty. The oddness comes in that my Wire-informed outlook on all things related to urban crime policy leaves me a little surprised that the police department would voluntarily allow citizens to graphically represent how unsafe their areas are. Aren't they supposed to be covering that up, or cooking the books, or otherwise trying to trick the media and populace into believing things are better than they are?
On the other hand, we just had a mayoral election, so this may be the outgoing mayor screwing the incoming one. That would make more sense in the Wireverse.
