THE TINFOIL BRIGADE. Tinfoil is a good material for a hat that keeps out the probing thought waves of others in sci-fi stories. In political talk a tinfoil-wearer is someone who is into conspiracy theories, or someone who is into something others want to see as conspiracy theories -- I always keep a large piece of tinfoil in my handbag, because it is also excellent for an instant rain hat. Two birds with one stone.
A Rasmussen poll tells us that one in five of U.S. voters questioned in the poll believe that George Bush knew about the 9/11 terrorist attacks in advance. More than one in three of Democratic voters believed this.
What does this mean? It is difficult to say, given the very small amount of information that comes from the secretive Bush administration. Nature abhors a vacuum and if the public is not allowed to get information from the government, other sources pick up that job. The result is many conspiracy theories, and just alternative theories in general.
