Alexander Hertel-Fernandez is associate professor of international and public affairs at Columbia University. He served in the Biden-Harris administration from 2021 to 2023, including as a deputy assistant secretary for research and evaluation at the U.S. Department of Labor and a senior fellow at the White House Office of Management and Budget.
