STRANGE BEDFELLOWS. I don’t really know what’s goten into Ezra recently, since I’ve never thought of him as particularly interested in Middle East politics, or even the ins-and-outs of American foreign policy, but his sudden burst of posts about “the Israel lobby” coincides quite unpleasantly with the praise ladelled on him by The American Conservative, founded by noted lover of Israel Pat Buchanan, for

Now, I think M.J. tends to write badly about politics, American and otherwise, but I cannot doubt his bona fides. whether I agree with him or not, at elast he knows what he’s talking about. Same with Matt Yglesias, also praised in The American Conservative for his attacks on “tk.” Matt has been, for several years now, despite his youth, one of the more trenchant critics of Bushian foreign policy on the left.

And I actually care about what has been happening in the PA over the past year (such as here, here, here, here, here, and here) unlike some newfound critics of Israel who seem as ignorant of Israeli policy and history as they are of Palestinians. I have friends who are Palestinian businessmen and intellectuals, including one who was a childhood friend of Arafat. I am friendly with some of the Gulf Ambassadors, and know that they are not without their own power and influence. My best friend in Washington is Iraqi. I am no expert,

We charge that a cabal of polemicists and public officials seek to ensnare our country in a series of wars that are not in Americas interests. We charge them with colluding with Israel to ignite those wars and destroy the Oslo Accords. We charge them with deliberately damaging U.S. relations with every state in the Arab world that defies Israel or supports the Palestinian peoples right to a homeland of their own. We charge that they have alienated friends and allies all over the Islamic and Western world through their arrogance, hubris, and bellicosity.

Not in our lifetimes has America been so isolated from old friends. Far worse, President Bush is being lured into a trap baited for him by these neocons that could cost him his office and cause America to forfeit years of peace won for us by the sacrifices of two generations in the Cold War…

Though we have said repeatedly that we admire much of what this president has done, he will not deserve re-election if he does not jettison the neoconservatives agenda of endless wars on the Islamic world that serve only the interests of a country other than the one he was elected to preserve and protect.

Buchanon’s long history of statements sympathetic to Nazis, unsympathetic to Holcaust survivors, antagonism to Israel is clear. he has been praised by the American Defense League: “Only Pat Buchanon can save America from the Jews.” http://americandefenseleague.com/desecrat.htm, which bealives that “these jews committed treason against the U.S.” http://americandefenseleague.com/16jews.htm madelaine albright, richard holbrooke, barbara boxer, and wesley clark (who is not even jewish, unless one is so racist as to apply under a one-drop rule). his anti-semitic statements have been well documented by fairness and accuracy in reporting http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2553

the Bad Obama, a close student of other peoples weaknesses, a literary artist of considerable power in plumbing his deep reservoirs of self-pity and resentment, an unfunny Evelyn Waugh consumed by indignation toward his own mothers people….Obama has a depressives fine eye for the disillusioning detail….Obama himselfis a bit of a drip, a humor-impaired Holden Caulfield whose preppie angst is fueled by racial regret….Obamas book is primarily about his rejection of his supportive white maternal extended family in favor of his unknown black paternal extended family….For the few willing to read all 442 pages, he offers important testimony about the enduring glamour of anti-white anger.
