I'm not sure what's happening with the new START treaty right now, but judging by the debate, Republicans are preparing to kill the treaty over language in the legally nonbinding preamble. Between the scuttled omnibus bill and this, it's not at all clear that any of the big lame-duck Democratic agenda will survive.
One of the more outrageous and inexplicable developments, though, is the ongoing Republican filibuster of a bill which would pay for the medical bills of first responders who were exposed to toxic debris. Jon Stewart devoted his show to the subject last night:
Steve Benen has been on this for the past two weeks. I just don't get why this bill is at all controversial.
