ABORTIONS IN FILM. There were some interesting, post-Knocked Up discussions over whether Hollywood shies away from depicting abortions. Well, The New York Times did some of that reporting I'm always hearing about, and found that, in fact, they often do -- there's no commercial upside. Most interesting, though, is the apparent trope of having a character who wants to get an abortion instead miscarry before the big day. That way the writers get to explore the issue with alienating advertisers or audiences. --Ezra Klein
