This is so the appeal of being a journalist. When something bad happens to you, when you go somewhere, when you get some laundry stolen -- you can conceivably write about it and make money off the experience. You profit off your life. Where normal people would just complain to a buddy about having a pair of jeans snatched at the laundromat, a normal journalist asks a buddy if any editors they know would like to pay 50 cents a word or higher for a reported piece about laundry theft.
