As a sort of addendum to last week's discussions of Politico, this profile of Phil Schiliro, the White House's legislative affairs director, is the sort of thing they do well. It's an article that would previously have only appeared in costly, insider publications like Roll Call or Congressional Quarterly, and been unavailable to the rest of us. But part of what The Politico realized is that there are a whole lot of people who want to be insiders. Not enough to support a national print newspaper, maybe, but more than enough to support a web site. So: Good subject! The guy who Obama has charged with handling Congress is important. But the Schiliro profile suffers from not being insidery enough. Fewer details on a "Budhha-like zen" and more details on the day-to-day details of liaising, plz.Sort of related: Rahm and mini-Rahm.
