The New Jersey Education Commissioner was fired over a Race to the Top grant proposal mistake, but that's not the real story. The story is that he said today he asked to be fired, instead of offering to resign, so that he could collect unemployment benefits. “I asked if they would mind writing a termination letter, instead of a resignation letter, because I do have a mortgage to pay, and I do have a daughter who’s just started college,” he said in an interview this morning, according to nj.com. Moreover, he was fired by Gov. Chris Christie because of his failure to get federal funds for education even as he slashes state programs in the name of budget austerity.
For two anti-government conservatives, this story is full of dependence on the government.
