Republican legislators in Arizona decided they hadn't pushed the envelope enough by constructing an anti-immigration bill that would basically make it illegal for Latinos in the state to walk around without proof of citizenship, so they had to go birther too:
The Arizona House on Monday voted for a provision that would require President Barack Obama to show his birth certificate if he hopes to be on the state’s ballot when he runs for reelection. The House voted 31-22 to add the provision to a separate bill. The measure still faces a formal vote.
Yesterday I suggested Arizona change their state motto to "Papers, please." Now they can go ahead with "Where's the birth certificate?"
A secondary question is whether or not Sen. John McCain, who recently reversed long-held stances on immigration to support this bill, will oppose it now that it has become a birther bill. McCain recently subjected his Republican primary opponent, J.D. Hayworth, to merciless ridicule for pandering to birthers. Will he stay silent now that Arizona legislators have shown themselves to be similarly afflicted by this nonsense?
