Barack Obama has promised to "partner" with Elizabeth Edwards to figure health care out. I've put out a couple feelers as to what this means, but not gotten anything back -- likely because this doesn't mean much of anything. Obama said it at an event when Edwards was in attendance, so my guess is it was much more a gesture of respect than the announcement of an actual partnership. Edwards will likely act as a surrogate for Obama on health care, but she's not likely to be given the master copy of the plan and a red pen. It wouldn't even make sense for her to do so. Obama now has a political document that he's committed to for the duration of the campaign. It's got its problems, but it draws plenty of distinction with John McCain, and will be plenty to carry Obama through the election. The plan will eventually be changed, but not by Edwards. Rather, the folks wielding the red pen will sit in the Senate and the House of Representatives.
